Peterson Metra Project

Walk with the Good City Group on Sunday, October 15 at 10:00 am

Meet at Misericordia's Hearts & Flour Bakery and Cafe, 6130 North Ravenswood Avenue

This Good City Group walk will celebrate the change that the new Metra station will bring to our community by retelling the story of its environment and residents. Curated by Odile Compagnon Architect with special guests invited along the way, the walk will highlight the life and legacy of the Peterson family, whose members influenced Chicago's understanding of forestry as early as the 1870s. Beyond giving their name to many sites in the Westridge neighborhood, the Petersons, and particularly Mary Gage Peterson (1844-1922), were instrumental in starting the conservation movement that led to the creation of the National Parks. It all started right around there, where the new Peterson/Ridge station will be. Walk participants are encouraged to bring their own tree-stories to share. All will get to choose tree seeds to start at home and plant in the Spring to commemorate Mary Gage Peterson's legacy.

This free Good City Group event is a Chicago Architecture Biennial partner program and a French Journees Nationales de l'Architecture event.
