Art on Sedgwick

“Intersections Placemaking Project” Concept Design

In June of 2023, Good City Group was commissioned by Art on Sedgwick—an organization “dedicated to fostering creativity and connecting our community through the power of art”—to develop a concept to reimagine an outdoor area that connects the three spaces that surround it. This connector proposes to become a gathering space for Art on Sedgwick, the community arts center at Marshall Square Garden Apartments, and the storefront space that will become an art gallery.

After discussions with Art on Sedgwick to learn more about current and future uses of the courtyard, an idea was to pay homage to William Walker’s “All of Humanity” mural from 1972 on a Cabrini Green area church.

From this a concept was developed that would include a mural; a trellis for climbing plants, lights and artwork; outdoor art display; planters; and tables and benches for gathering together.

In late 2023 Art on Sedgwick commissioned two artists, Sam Kirk and Gabe Moreno to transform the outdoor space. Sam will paint the mural and Gabe will create the planters and furniture. Completion is slated for summer 2024. For more information, visit the Art on Sedgwick website.
